The telescreen is always on, you can turn it down but not off. How many television sets are on the moment people enter their homes and stay that way until they go to bed or leave?
The things we hear and see impact our ability to control our minds and lives. If you are working toward a simpler life you will need to learn when to listen, how to listen, and how to control your responses to that information. You need to recognize when some external agency is trying to control you and respond appropriately.
